Crazy Rich Asians (featuring Passport People)

December 27, 2021

For our final Guest episode, we're joined by the lovely Fin from Passport People and his equally delightful fiancé Melanie to discuss an appropriately wedding-themed rom-com that took the box office by storm in 2018 - Jon M. Chu's groundbreaking hit Crazy Rich Asians

Tune in to hear our thoughts on fashion montages, the timeless fabulousness of Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina stealing every scene she's in and why Henry Golding is the real villain of this movie.

We also brainstorm drinking games, pitch sequel ideas and get a deep-dive into Singapore's cultural history courtesy of Fin!

On this weeks podcast, we discuss Leo's interesting post-Titanic career choices, Tom Hanks playing against type, an early showcase for Amy Adams and much more, plus drinking games and sequel pitches!

Mildred Pierce

Mildred Pierce

August 29, 2021

My ill-fated attempt to induct Harry into the joys of classic cinema continues with Mildred Pierce, the Oscar-winning film noir that provided a much-needed comeback vehicle for Joan Crawford.

Tune in to hear our thoughts on bad police work, Streisand-esque lighting, intimidating shoulder pads and much more!

My attempt to break through Harry's anti-Black & White biases hits a snag this week as we discuss one of the most celebrated movies of all time... the witty, literate All About Eve...

Hugo 2: Changing Faces

Hugo 2: Changing Faces

August 8, 2021

If every great director gets at least one commercially doomed vanity project, 2011's Hugo was Martin Scorcese's. A 2 hour plus love letter to classic cinema shot in luxurious 3D, the movie struggled to find a commercial audience on release, but it racked up 11 Oscar nominations and ultimately won five.

On this week's episode, we discuss the movie magic on display, the 3D effects we wish we could have seen in the cinemas, the post Love Guru redemption of Ben Kingsley and much more, plus drinking games, listener submissions and sequel pitches!

Ten Things I Hate AboutYou

Ten Things I Hate AboutYou

June 7, 2021

Of all the attempts to adapt classic literature into modern cinema of the 00s, Ten Things I Hate About You is arguably the most successful.

From Allison Janney's hilariously unprofessional Guidance Counsellor, the strangest game of paintball we've ever seen to the iconic arrival of Nigel with the Brie, find out why in this week's very special episode....

True Romance 2:Elvis Has Left The Building

True Romance 2:Elvis Has Left The Building

April 19, 2021

Based on an early script by by Quentin Tarantino, but directed by popcorn maestro Tony Scott, True Romance is a genuinely wild combination of styles with an insanely stacked cast of early 90s stars - from Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette as the unfeasibly gorgeous romantic leads to hilarious supporting turns from Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, Samuel L Jackson and many more.

In this week's podcast we discuss Slater being technically miscast but weirdly perfect, Arquette's brutal but badass scene with James Gandolfini, Gary Oldman's craziest role ever and much more, plus drinking games, listener submissions and sequel pitches! This one's quite a ride!

Dreamgirls 2: Divas Reunited

Dreamgirls 2: Divas Reunited

February 22, 2021

Originating as a hit Broadway stage show, Dreamgirls tells the story of a popular sixties girl group who bear a striking - but entirely coincidental - resemblance to The Supremes. The film version starred Beyonce in the Diana Ross role, but it was former American Idol alumni Jennifer Hudson who stole the show, winning an Oscar in the process.

In this week's episode, we discuss our highlights - including Eddie Murphy channelling James Brown, RnB songs clearly written by middle-aged white people and a whole lot of vocal showboating.

We also brainstorm some drinking games, check in with our listeners and pitch sequel ideas to bring the movie back to the big screen. Because after all - you can't keep a good diva down!
